Dandelion Safe Homes builds tiny homes for women leaving domestic and family violence — designed, trained and built by women. A complete build costs $65,000. Materials alone run to $36,000. None of it happens without partners like you.

What we need most

Space to build. Land to place them.

Two things sit behind every home we build that no bundle covers — space to build in, and land to build on. If you can offer either, you're offering something more valuable than any cheque.

We build tiny homes on trailers — which means we need covered factory or workshop space with enough clearance to work safely. If you have a shed, warehouse or yard we could use, we'd love to talk. This is our most urgent need and the hardest to find.

We can build the home. We can't build the land. We're looking for landowners — private, community or commercial — who can offer a site to place a completed tiny home. This is the final piece that turns a build into a life changed.

Sponsor a piece of the build

Every home is made up of roughly $36,000 in materials. Below is each piece, what it costs, and what it means. Sponsoring a bundle means your business is directly traceable to a woman having a safe place to sleep.

Material Bundles

    The Foundation

    Cost: $9,000

    The trailer that carries the home and the floor it's built on. Everything else sits on top of this. Trailer, red tongue flooring, cement sheet floors, subfloor fixings

    The Frame

    Cost: $5,500

    The bones of the home. Steel frame and the engineering certification that makes it legal to live in. Steel frame, engineering (Class 1)

    The Shell

    Cost: $6,000

    What keeps the weather out. External cladding, battens, flashing and guttering — the skin of the home. External cladding, barge, flashing, trims, battens, gutter

    Windows and Doors

    Cost: $3,500

    Light, airflow and the ability to lock a door behind you. That last part matters more than most of us will ever know. All windows, external door, internal door and hardware

    Electrical

    Cost: $2,500

    A fully wired home — lights, power points, switches and a qualified install. Safe and code-compliant. Electrical components, wiring, downlights, GPOs, switches, installation

    Cost: $2,000

    Kitchen & Laundry

    Cost: $2,500

    A kitchen to cook in and a laundry to wash in. Second-hand cabinetry given a new life in a home that needs one. Kitchen cabinetry, laundry cabinetry, sinks, plumbing connections

    Wet Areas

    Cost: $1,000

    A private shower and a waterproofed bathroom — basic dignity that too many women on our waiting list are going without. Shower screen, shower base, waterproofing, plumbing materials, cement sheet walls

    Interior Finishes

    Cost: $2,500

    The difference between a shell and a home. Wall linings, flooring, mouldings and paint — the part that makes it feel like hers. VJ boards or ply, flooring, mouldings, paint

    Fixings & Miscellaneous

    Cost: $1,000

    Every screw, drill bit, tube of silicone and roll of tape that holds everything together. Unglamorous — and completely essential. Screws, glues, drill bits, silicone, miscellaneous fixings

Other ways to be part of it

  • A small regular contribution compounds over time. $50/month from ten businesses funds a windows and doors package in a year.

  • Give what you can toward any part of the build.

  • Trades, grant writer, domestic and family violence case worker, accounting, project management — don’t see a role that fits, reach out anyways.
